Legal expenses insurance
Legal expenses insurance (rechtsbijstandverzekering) gives you legal help when you have a conflict – for example with your landlord, employer, a shop or a neighbour. The insurer’s lawyers help you, or pay for an external lawyer up to a limit.
- Choose the areas you need: consumer, work, housing, traffic, family
- Often a waiting period of about three months
- Immigration matters are usually not covered – for those, see Yari Immigration Services
Term life insurance
Term life insurance (overlijdensrisicoverzekering) pays a fixed amount if you die during the term. It is most common with a mortgage or a young family, so your partner can stay in the home.
Funeral insurance
Funeral insurance (uitvaartverzekering) pays for a funeral, either as a fixed amount or as a service. For many newcomers, repatriation to the country of origin is the key question – check that it is included.
Questions
Is there a waiting period for legal expenses insurance?
Usually yes – often three months. A conflict that already existed before you took the policy is not covered.
Do I need term life insurance with a mortgage?
It is not required by law, but some lenders ask for it, especially with a high mortgage. It protects your partner from having to sell the home if you die.
Can I be repatriated for a funeral in my home country?
Many funeral insurances offer repatriation to the country of origin, sometimes for an extra premium. Check this explicitly in the conditions.
